For One, 원하는 관계
The lines, surface and less structured shapes that we encounter form a ‘circular’ and ‘desired’ form. Even though wanting a perfect circular form that doesn’t exist is absurd, The relationships of mine and myself continue to create circles constantly.
The perfect things in my imagination that do not exist and cannot be met, and the perfection that is desired again and again in spite of knowing such perfection as moderation, emptiness, putting things down, nothing to dismay …doesn’t exist are ultimately desired. The perfection that are imagined, fictional and the very human minds pursuing it. The perfection that I made longing for it endlessly as it was impossible to meet. Distorted truth in perfect forms. Nevertheless, relationships carry on.

나와 나의 관계들 (Me and my relationship with people), 2017, colour masking tapes, acrylic board, 1615x4670mm
This work is called <Me and My Relationships with People> and it is the key work for the show. The recurring circles depict the process of finding one’s own place in static and ruptured relationships. The repeated combinations of six different colours shows myself blending into other people
For One, 2017, colour masking tapes, acrylic board, wood, 600x1200m
<For One> tells a story of my desire for relationships. Although everyone has their own wishes for relationships, it’s very difficult to have them come true. Having that in mind, I visualised emotional space that is united but also apart, with three pieces of a circle in three different frames.
ONE이 되어가는 圓(A circle becoming one), 2017, colour masking tapes, acrylic board, wood, 1000x1200mm
<A circle becoming one> is intended to indicate that the space of our emotions change in response to making relationships with others. The ideas for this work was derived from relationship-oriented thinking and reflected thoughts on changing emotions as “me” and “us”.
완벽하지 않은 완벽함(imperfect perfection), 2017, colour masking tapes, acrylic board, wood, 2820x1200mm
This work bears the thought that myself should be able to stay distinct in relationships with others, despite being relationship-oriented on one hand. The three circular shapes put apart are solid individual space that is not interfered with by relationships with others.
願하는 ONE(Desired ONE), 2017, colour masking tapes, acrylic board, wood, 600x1200mm
This artwork depicts how one’s centre changes in response to external factors using lines and flat surfaces. The idea was that the various colours and lines coming together and creating different colours and forms subsequently describe human relationships.
관계들이 선을 이루다 (strike a balance between people), 2017, colour masking tapes, acrylic board, wood, 1000x1200mm
<Strike a balance between people> is about the moment when the emotional space in people meet each other. People’s emotional space are combined in the process of having dialogues, understanding and sympathy with each other, which creates a new space. For this reason, this work comprises two different works that are adjacent.
